CornellCookson Building Expansion

Construction Update

Industrial

Sordoni was the General Contractor for this one-story, 94,000 square foot manufacturing plant expansion which was constructed adjacent to the existing facility. Interior renovations were made to the bathrooms and locker room of the existing facility.
The new pre-engineered metal building has 3 recessed loading bays with dock levelers and 5 loading docks. All docks and bays include dock equipment. Compressed air lines run throughout the facility, along with infrared gas heat, LED lighting, and a new emergency generator. Fourteen 5 ton cranes are installed throughout bays 11 through 16 with two 7 ton cranes installed in bays 13 and 14.
The exterior consists of 8” concrete masonry unit (CMU) block walls on the lower one-third portion of the exterior walls and insulated metal siding on the upper two-thirds of the walls.
Site improvements included new lighting and asphalt pavement on the south side of the facility to accommodate incoming shipments in the receiving area, new pavement in the shipping area and along the east side of the building for additional trailer parking and new lighting throughout.
The team faced many challenging site conditions related to an established detention basin located on the existing site. Work included removal of the existing vegetation and actual work within the basin. Constant waterflow through the site had to be diverted/routed to the basin all while monitoring the discharged water met approved industry measures. The project was successfully completed in nine months.
