Global Tungsten & Powders ORC Consolidation

Towanda, PA

Industrial Construction

Sordoni was selected as the Design-Builder by Global Tungsten & Powders for the construction of an Oxidation/Reduction/Carburization (ORC) Consolidation Building. The scope of work includes the demolition of three existing industrial buildings and construction of a new 47,000 SF, 50’ high building. Work will be completed in five phases.

Phase 1 involves preliminary engineering of the ORC building structure, systems, process piping, and layout of the ORC equipment. Multiple construction activities are being scheduled in preparation for an August 2023 plant shutdown. These include rerouting of an 8” gas main that feeds multiple plant process facilities, relocation of an existing fire alarm subpanel and branch wiring to fire alarm devices, and rerouting of the existing electrical substation feeders to multiple buildings. Following the shutdown activities, Phase 2 will begin in 2024. This phase will include demolition of two buildings and relocation of several structures, and construction of a new pipe rack to house the permanent gas and process piping for the new ORC facility and multiple downstream plant services.

Phases 3-5 will include final engineering and construction of the ORC building, as well as installation and startup of equipment.
